Baptism identifies the person with the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. As with a natural burial, this “spiritual” burial requires total emersion, which signifies the person “dying” to sin, and his body, being dead to sin, is buried in Christ. Now with sin having no more hold over him he is “resurrected” in Christ in the newness of life (Rom 6:3-9,11).To be identified with Christ in baptism, you must be baptized into his name, not titles. This is evident in Acts 2:38, 10:47, 48, 8:16, and 19:5.These scriptures show what the apostles did in laying the foundation for baptism in the name of Jesus.Isaiah 28:10 reads:Precept must be upon precept, precept upon precept, line upon line, here a little and there a little… It is essential and necessary that a person fully understands, before or after baptism, what baptism means, what is does, and where that person fits in.When you are baptized in His name, you put on His name for “Neither is there salvation in any other, for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved” (Acts 4:12).
