Becoming Carnal (unawares!)

When there seems to be no need to contend for the faith, a degree of complacency (laziness) has set in. This is but one of the many elements of becoming carnal unawares. We know that becoming carnal is like cancer to our spiritual life, “For to be carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually mined is life and peace. Because the carnal mind is enmity against God, for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be (Romans 8: 6,7). Man falls into three categories, natural man, carnal man, and spiritual man. It is written, “Which things also we speak, not in the words which man’s wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth, comparing spiritual things with spiritual. But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness unto him, neither can he know them because they are spiritually discerned.   But he that is spiritual judgeth all things, yet he himself is judged of no man (1Corinthians 2:13-15). The carnal man is the brethren that is still in his flesh that is why Paul said, “And I brethren, could not speak unto you as unto spiritual, but as unto carnal, even as unto babes in Christ. I have fed you with milk, and not with meat: for hitherto ye were not able to bear it, neither yet now are ye able. For ye are yet carnal, for whereas there is among you envying and strife, and divisions, are ye not carnal and walk as men?” (1Corinthians 3:1-3). “But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwelling you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of His” (Romans 8:9). Once complacency has crept in, there is a conscious decision that has to be made whether to make that effort to draw closer to Christ or put it off to another time. Carnality is there when you desire more of the things of the world than the things of God (Colossians 3:2), you dwell on your personal situations or problems without a thought of what God would want you to do, or you don’t long for guidance from God as to your direction in the body of Christ outside of your own personal desires. Being carnal, do you think you will hear the sound of the trump?
